In 1907, local businessman Thomas Dixon generously donated the land and an initial sum of 250 pounds. His vision was to establish a facility dedicated to “public use and entertainment”.
Today, Maleny Community Centre (MCC) is regularly used by local community groups such as Senior Citizens, Maleny Film Society, CWA, and many other not-for-profit and commercial groups. Each month, concerts, movies and workshops feature in the Main Hall and the various other spaces available for hire.

The costs of maintaining the MCC are substantial, so how do we raise the money to keep it maintained at such a high standard?
Maleny Community Centre operates largely independently, with no secure long-term government funding. The majority of our revenue comes from three main sources:
- Venue Hire: Offering affordable and versatile spaces for a diverse range of events, including weddings, workshops, and both commercial and community gatherings.
- Retail Leasing: Onsite commercial premises are leased to local businesses, providing a stable income stream.
- Bar Sales: Revenue is generated through bar sales during concerts, theatre productions, and private functions.
How Can You Help?
The continued success and vitality of the Maleny Community Centre depends on the active involvement and support of the community. There are several ways to get involved:
- Volunteer: Join the management committee, work behind the bar, or help with maintenance. All experience levels are welcome.
- Donate: Contributions of any size go directly into a dedicated fund for maintaining and improving the facilities. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
- Attend an Event: The easiest (and most fun) way to support us! Come see a movie, enjoy a concert, or participate in a workshop.
The Maleny Community Centre belongs to our local community. Whether you volunteer your time, or catch a show, you’re helping to keep our local treasure thriving.
