The Maleny Community Centre began in 1910 in a hall built on this land, which was left by Thomas Dixon to “the people of Maleny”. More than a century later it continues to be a centre owned by this community, offering a place to meet, enjoy and celebrate for more than 35,000 visitors a year. This is our hall.
Like all old wooden buildings it requires ongoing maintenance. Since we are owned and operated by the community, we receive no regular income apart from a small amount of funding from Sunshine Coast Council. As a not-for-profit we are often successful with grant applications but these are typically small and rarely available when the need for major work arises.
We are budgeting for a complete repaint of the building inside and out in the next two years. To achieve this, help from our community will be essential.
